Tarik's story in brief
Tarik Ramadan was arrested by American troops on 3 February 2005 as he left work on Kirkuk Airbase in Northern Iraq. He was handed over to the Asaish (Kurdish Security Force ) who took him to Sulaymaniyah in Northern Iraq where he is still being held in prison today.
- He has never been formally charged with any offence or subject to trial of any kind.
- He has been given no documents by the Asaish or the Iraqi Courts that relate to his imprisonment or any alleged offences.
- He has had no access to a lawyer or legal assistance of any kind.
- His arrest and continued imprisonment are a flagrant violation of international and Iraqi human rights laws and the Iraqi Constitution.
